GUMBO, MISSOURI

���� The town of Gumbo situated northwest of Desloge was controlled in 1823, the year of its survey, by the Bonne Terre Farming & Cattle Company. It has only five or six blocks running in a rectangular fashion east and west.

This is a photo of the old Gumbo School where grades 1 through 8 were formerly taught.� The Gumbo school district was consolidated into the Desloge R-II School District in 1959.� Desloge R-II later consolidated with Bonne Terre school district and the entire district is now known as the North County R-I School District.��

"Berryman" House on Owl Creek near Gumbo, Missouri which was supposedly built about 1832.� During the Civil War it was supposedly used as a fort by the Confederate soldiers.� Sam Hildebrand spoke of the house in his confession.� His friend, Major Dick Berryman lived there during the 1860's.�� This house is very similar to the Hildebrand home located north of Bonne Terre, Missouri.
