HISTORIC BRIDGE NEAR DESLOGE

bridg_desloge.jpg (17515 bytes)

Located on Cedar Falls Road, about one mile east of Desloge.

A truss bridge was built in 1911 by the Stupp Brothers Construction Co. to carry traffic across the Flat River sometimes known as Flat River Creek.  It is a one-lane bridge with wood plank floor and may be the oldest bridge of that type remaining in the county.  A new bridge is replacing it and the bridge, having been declared historic by the state is for sale.  It will be torn down if not sold.  There has been some interest from buyers outside the state to buy it, tear it down, number the parts and rebuild it elsewhere.

From Highway 67 down the southbound ramp at Desloge, make a left turn, going under 67 highway which becomes Cedar Falls Road.  Continue east.  Road turns north and within about a block turns east again leading to the bridge.

[Note:  This bridge has now been torn down and replaced with a new bridge.]
