FIRE DAMAGES WOOD'S DRUG STORE

Answering an early morning call, Dr. W. A. Rohlfing discovered dense smoke and a small flame inside Wood's Drug Store Sunday morning about 5:30 o'clock. He immediately notified the owner, Miss Lillian Wood, and the fire department, thus averting what might have been a disastrous fire as few persons are on the street Sunday morning.

The origin of the fire is not known but since the center of the flames was under the foot rail of the soda fountain, it is presumed that a smoldering cigarette could have caused the fire. The firemen had to use gas masks because of the dense smoke before entering the building to fight the fire. While no estimate of the damage has been made, the floor was burned, the fountain insulation ruined and the fountain counter badly damaged. The loss is partially covered by insurance.
