BERT SARRELL KILLED IN MINE ACCIDENT
AT IRON MOUNTAIN

Bert Sarrell, 36 years of age, who gave Piedmont as his home, was so seriously injured in a mine explosion at Iron Mountain, at noon Monday, that he died a few hours later. He was working his first shift in the mine, having entered the employ of the company Monday morning.

Sarrell was given a job at shoveling underground. He was breaking up some rock with a hammer preparatory to loading it. Some dynamite, which had been left intact in the boulder, was exploded by the blows of the hammer. Both of Sarrell's legs were blown off at the knees. He was rushed to St. Louis and was placed in Missouri Baptist Sanitarium, where he died soon after his arrival.

Very little is known at Iron Mountain, concerning Sarrell. He landed at that place Sunday from a destination unknown. While he gave Piedmont as his home it has been learned that he had not been at Piedmont for some time. After the accident, he told persons who ministered to him to notify his brother, Paul Sarrell, at Piedmont. It has also been learned that he has been married, but is divorced.  His body was shipped to Piedmont for burial.
