EDWARD DEGRANT KILLED IN MINE ACCIDENT.
Edward E. DeGrant of Esther was instantly killed Friday
morning, September 21st at ten o'clock while working at St. Joseph Lead Company's No. 5
mine Federal Division.
DeGrant and his partner, Peck Oder, were extending the trolley line
using a span wire for support. As he used the special device for the tightening of the
wires between the two pillars he evidently pulled the wire too tight causing a part of the
pillar to break loose. This rock about 4x6 feet struck the six foot ladder on which he was
standing, throwing him off balance. He fell on the railroad tracks and the rock struck
him, fracturing his skull.
Funeral services were held at the Esther-Flat River Nazarene Church
Sunday afternoon, Sept. 23rd at two o'clock conducted by his pastor, Rev. K. H. Ladman.
Interment Parkview Cemetery, Sparks Service.
