EDWARD DEGRANT KILLED IN MINE ACCIDENT.

Edward E. DeGrant of Esther was instantly killed Friday morning, September 21st at ten o'clock while working at St. Joseph Lead Company's No. 5 mine Federal Division.

DeGrant and his partner, Peck Oder, were extending the trolley line using a span wire for support. As he used the special device for the tightening of the wires between the two pillars he evidently pulled the wire too tight causing a part of the pillar to break loose. This rock about 4x6 feet struck the six foot ladder on which he was standing, throwing him off balance. He fell on the railroad tracks and the rock struck him, fracturing his skull.

Funeral services were held at the Esther-Flat River Nazarene Church Sunday afternoon, Sept. 23rd at two o'clock conducted by his pastor, Rev. K. H. Ladman. Interment Parkview Cemetery, Sparks Service.

Edward Everett DeGrant, the son of William and the late Artie Misa DeGrant was born October 11, 1904 at Doe Run, Mo., and died September 21, 1945, at the age of 40 years 11 months 20 days.

On May 15, 1930, he was united in marriage to Moreane Cummings and to this union were born two children, Shirley Lee and Larry Edward.

His mother died March 26, 1930, and two brothers and a sister preceded him in death, Clyde, George and Peal.

Besides his wife, two children and father, he leaves three brothers and four sisters: Luther, DeGrant, Farmington, Gilbert DeGrant, Elvins; John DeGrant, Flat River; (Lorene) Mrs. Royce Fields, St. Louis; (Leda) Mrs. Dewey Robinson, New York City; (Iva) Mrs. Richard Mason, Detroit; (Katherine) Mrs. William Freeman, Bonne Terre. Two half brothers also survive, Leeman Pinkston of Bonne Terre and Willard Pinkston of Ohio.

Mr. DeGrant joined the Methodist Church when a youth but about a year ago he placed his membership with the Esther-Flat River Church of the Nazarene.
