2 MINERS KILLED AT BAKER SHAFT IN FLAT RIVER

     Two more miners lost their lives in the Baker Shaft of the St. Joseph Lead Company mines at Flat River on Friday afternon, when they returned to a heading to investigate a drill hole which had missed fire.  The hole exploded as the men approached it and both Roy Glore and Gus Umfleet were instantly killed.

     A fellow workman, John Haines [sic Helms], was severly injured and at this writing is in a serious condition at the Bonne Terre Hospital.   The coroner's jury returned a verdict of accidental death.  Both the deceased were married, and had families, and resided in Esther, Missouri.
