At 2:45 p.m. Friday, January 22, Louis F. Fisher, electrician, was found lying beside the large hoist motor at the Federal hoistroom.
Fisher had been repairing this motor while it was down and while the hoist operator was pulling men from the No. 17 shaft with another hoist.
Glenwood Hulsey, on entering the hoistroom, noticed Fisher's body lying on the floor and immediately reported the accident. Artificial respiration and aid through mechanical resuscitation from the Flat River Fire Department failed to revive the injured man.
Louis F. Fisher, 46 years of age, had been employed by St. Joseph Lead Company since May 8, 1942 and is survived by his wife and five children who reside at 600 Glendale, Flat River.
LOUIS F. FISHER
Louis F. Fisher, son of Fred and Anna Hasty Fisher, was born in Ironton, Mo., March 13, 1907, and departed this life January 22, 1954, aged 46 years 10 months 9 days.
On August 18, 1927, he was united in marriage to Ilah Mae Moyer of Ironton and to this union were born five children, who with the wife, survive. They are: Ella Mae (Mrs. Gene) LaHay, St. Louis; Peggy Lou (Mrs. Kenneth) Buckley, and Shirley June (Mrs. Bob) O'Brien, Flat River; Louis Edward and Rose Lenora, at home. He also leaves his mother, Mrs. Anna Fisher of Elvins; five brothers: Fred of Elvins; Joe of Ironton; George of Detroit, Mich.; Earl of Bismarck; and Pearl of Ironton; two sisters, Mrs. Beulah Bequette, Cadet, Mo., and Mrs. Louise Mallow, East St. Louis, Ill.; and seven grandchildren: J. L. and Jeanne Daffron, David and Tom LaHay, Keith Buckley, Tony and Bobby O'Brien, besides other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, January 25, at the First Baptist Church in Flat River, of which he was a member, conducted by his pastor, Rev. H. V. Lassiter, assisted by Rev. Clayton Baker, pastor of the Elvins Baptist Church. Burial was in the K. of P. Cemetery, Ironton, Mo. Sparks Service.
