Robert H. Arnett, 22 years old, who has been in the employ of the St. Joseph Lead Company, was fatally injured Monday afternoon just after 3 o'clock, under ground at Number Three. He had just completed his shift, and had started up to get his card. For some reason he did not hear the approaching underground locomotive, and was knocked down, several of the cars having passed over his body.
He lived for a short time, and was being rushed to the Bonne Terre Hospital, but died on the way there. The remains were brought back to the Diemer Undertaking rooms at Elvins, where Coroner Prather held an inquest Tuesday morning. It was found that he had died as the result of internal injuries, no bones having been broken.
The unfortunate man had been boarding at Rivermines. His home was at Fredericktown. His father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Arnett, came to Elvins Monday night, having driven through in a car. They made arrangements for the removal of the remains to Fredericktown Wednesday morning.
