BURLIN SUTTERFIELD
KILLED AT FEDERAL LOADING PIT

Burlin James Sutterfield, 29 year old Flat River man, was killed instantly at 1:45 p.m., Wednesday, August 1, 1945, when he was crushed between an open car and screen at the Federal Mill chat pile loading pit.

Sutterfield was working with Henry Marion, loading chat into the gondola (open railroad car). As the crane operator was getting ready to load the chat into the car, the dipper started moving back and caught Sutterfield between the end of the car and the one-thousand pound screen. Marion was at the other end of the car and was not injured.

The body was removed to the Boyer Funeral Home in Desloge for preparation, and an inquest was conducted there at 4 p.m., Thursday by Coroner Berl. J. Miller. Funeral services will be held at Bunker, Mo., his former home. He is survived by his wife and two small daughters.
