WILLIAM A. DUNCAN RETIRES JANUARY 1 |
William A. Duncan of Leadington, holder of the Joseph Holmes Award for safety, was pensioned Jan. 1, 1965, by the St. Joseph Lead Company. During retirement he plans to do some welding and blacksmith work at his home workshop. Mr. Duncan was born near Patton, Mo., and was employed intermittently by the St. Joseph Lead Company from 1920 until 1922. He was employed Sept. 18, 1922 by the Federal Lead Company and transferred to St. Joseph Lead Company in Oct. 1923, when Federal was purchased by St. Joe. In the course of his employment Mr. Duncan worked as Loader, Trackman, Operating driller, Development Driller, Blacksmith, Welder and Handyman in the Mining Department. He also worked as a Laborer and Carpenter in the Milling Department. His last day worked was Dec. 31, 1964. On Oct. 28, 1934 William Duncan was married to Anthem Howell. In their family are four daughters and eleven grandchildren. The daughters are: Mrs. Lennie (Viola) Johnson of Leadington, Mrs. Travis (Pearl) Harper of Flat River, Mrs. Leon (Ruby) Campbell of Leadington, and Mrs. Chalmer Forsythe of Farmington. Mr. Duncan has lived at Leadington for the past thirty-five years. He and his wife are members of the Leadington Free Will Baptist Church.
